Central First has a 52 place nursery that offers both a morning (8.30 - 11.30) and an afternoon (11.45 - 2.45) session. This year we are taking part in a pilot scheme to provide extended hours. 15 hours per week (increased from 12.5) are now on offer for every child and these can be provided flexibly e.g. 2 full days and a half day rather than 5 mornings or afternoons. Please ask at the school office for more details.
Central Nursery operates an open plan routine where the children are encouraged to move purposefully and freely around the indoor and outdoor environment where the children select from carefully structured play activities. We provide a variety of learning opportunities throughout the nursery to cover the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum through first hand, direct experiences.

Exploring the Outdoor Environment
The children have the opportunity to explore the outdoor environment every day and in all weather conditions so it is important that you provide your child with suitable clothing. On wet days please send your child to school in a waterproof coat and Wellington boots. On hot, sunny days they will need a sun hat and glasses and suntan lotion. On cold winter days please send them to school in a warm winter coat, hat, scarf and gloves.
Home Reading
Even from an early age, children should be encouraged to develop an interest in books. In Nursery each child will be provided with a reading record and reading book. Please share a book as often as you can with your child. You can change your reading book in Nursery as often as you like. Please sign in the record book when you have shared a book at home, even if they are not from Nursery. It is essential that your child gets into the habit of reading regularly at home. Reading at home can make a huge impact on the progress of your child throughout their school career.
Home/School File
Every child in Nursery has a home/school file. This contains samples of their work, observations and has a record of your child’s achievements. Please feel free to add your own comments and examples of work to the file.
